Krishna Sahai

An extremely handy guide by Krishna Sahai to understand and appreciate Bharata Natyam, the ancient and esoteric dance form preserved through the ages with astonishing purity. The holistic overview takes one through the purpose behind all Indian art forms, the development and history of Bharata Natyam, stories that are set to dance and, finally, to the technique.

The well-researched text, illustrated with photographs, and line drawings by Gautam Vaghela, will help the reader-viewer enjoy, as a true aesthete, the multi-layered beauty of the form and content of this ancient heritage, and the ultimate experience of rasa.

Krishna Sahai, a graduate in economics from Lady Sri Ram College, New Delhi, earned her M.Phil degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She joined the Indian Revenue Service in 1978.

Krishna's appreciation for the Arts began early. She learnt the piano and completed the extension course from the Trinity College of Music, London. She was actively involved with amateur theatre groups through school and college. She learnt Bharata Natyam, first under the tutelage of Shri K. V. Kunniraman, and later from Sri Srinivas Santhanam, himself a disciple of the legendary guru, Chokkalingam Pillai.
