An untimely death may have robbed Saif of the many
things he had wanted of life, but his thoughts were
captured in words; and some of his insights that lay
nesting in his poems saw the light of day when they were
published in his earlier book To the Earth Gods (2000).
And now, in this
volume Prisoner of My Wings, is presented yet another
dimension of the poet — that of his poetic journey to
realize the power of an individual to combat pain,
despair and anguish. These poems reveal the poet's
gentle and honest faith in his friendship with God, and
explore the complex dilemmas of human existence.
Born in Pakistan,
Saif (1948-83) was brought up in Kenya. He spent the
last fifteen years of his short life in London.
