A man-cub, a city of monkeys, and an ode
to a mongoose where else would you find them but
in the Jungle Book. This orchestra of animal
voices has only one man voice – Mowgli, who is
found in the forest only to be adopted by wolf
parents. Mowgli grows up with the Bagheera the
panther, Baloo the friendly bear, but the Jungle
is not devoid of foes. Somewhere in its dark
depths hides Shere Khan. Kipling’s jungle is not
just limited to the land it includes the
escapades of the “holluschikies” or the bachelor
seals of the Bering sea as well. Interspersed
with poetry, these tales has been an all time
favourite with children of all ages. |
